Today is 204th anniversary of Cienfuegos which was funded by Don Luis Lorenzo De Clouet Pietre on 22 of April 1819. The city started with 46 people and in the first year has grown in size by a mixture of Spanish and Cubans. It is home to our scuba diving operation ScubaCuba.ca where we oversee the scuba diving travel market from Canada to Cuba.

I originally visited Cienfuegos over 10 years ago helping my friend to start scuba diving charter but it took me few years to come back to this city and stay for 7 months during COVID lock down . I fall in love with this place and I would like to share few facts about this beautiful city.

Fact #1 The only city in Cuba and entire Latin America founded by French under domination of Spanish. Cuba at that time was a Spanish colony.

Fact #2 At the time of foundation the name of the city was Fernandina De Jagua, and 10 years later was given name Cienfuegos to honor the Captain General of Cuba Don Jose Cienfuegos Jovellanos.

Fact #3 In the city center called Jose Marti Park there is Arch of Laborers which looks like replica of Arch of Triumph in Paris. This Arch is also one of it’s kind in entire Cuba.

Fact #4 Through the center of the city runs the longest walkway in Cuba, known as Paseo del Prado guarded by magnificent columns, galleries and arcades .

Fact #5 The city is known as the City of the Sea and often reoffered to as The Pearl of the South.

We want to invite you to come and dive with us and explore the beautiful Cienfuegos above and below the water.
